A New Day Dawns with Sun & Moon

On February 3, 2017, the dawn broke on a new generation with the release of the Sun & Moon base set. This expansion invited players to the tropical Alola region, introducing new Alolan variants of classic Pokémon like Rattata, Meowth, and Diglett. Most importantly, it debuted the powerful "Pokémon-GX" mechanic. Pokémon-GX featured high HP and devastating "GX attacks" that were so powerful they could only be used once per game, adding a crucial layer of resource management and timing to every match.

Decidueye-GX and the Grass Revolution

While the Legendary Solgaleo-GX and Lunala-GX were the faces of the set, the real competitive star was "Decidueye-GX." Its "Feather Arrow" ability allowed players to snipe damage onto opponent's Pokémon every turn, creating a dominant control deck when paired with "Forest of Giant Plants" (before its eventual ban). The set also introduced "Tauros-GX," which became an early staple for its ability to punish opponents who dared to attack it. With its vibrant art style and game-changing mechanics, Sun & Moon set a bright new standard for the TCG.
