Sun & Moon—Team Up
Status: Released (February 2019)
Tag Teams Change the Game in Team Up
The game evolved on February 1, 2019, with the release of Sun & Moon—Team Up. This set introduced the "TAG TEAM GX" mechanic, featuring pairs of Pokémon on a single card with massive HP and devastating attacks. Knocking out one of these titans awarded three prize cards, raising the stakes of every match. The mascot card, "Pikachu & Zekrom-GX," immediately dominated the format, utilizing its "Full Blitz" attack to accelerate energy and hit for huge damage as early as turn 1.
Latios & Latias and the Heart of the Cards
Beyond competitive dominance, Team Up is famous for its alternate art "Latios & Latias-GX." Depicting the two dragons forming a heart shape in the sky, it is widely considered one of the most beautiful cards ever printed and remains a high-value collector's item. The set also introduced "Jirachi," whose "Stellar Wish" ability became the glue that held almost every deck together for the next two years. Sun & Moon—Team Up marked the beginning of the "Big Basic" era, where speed and power reigned supreme.
