The Shiny Hunt Begins

The first special holiday set of 2024, Scarlet & Violet—Paldean Fates, was released on January 26, 2024. Just like "Shining Fates" and "Hidden Fates" before it, this set focused heavily on Shiny Pokémon. With a massive "Shiny Vault" containing rare, alternate-color versions of dozens of popular Pokémon, it was an instant hit with collectors. The set marked the debut of Shiny Pokémon in the Scarlet & Violet era, introducing a new "Shiny Rare" rarity with a unique sparkle texture.

Shiny Charizard and Mew

Competitively, the set was mostly reprints, but it offered beautiful new versions of meta staples. The "Shiny Tera Charizard ex" quickly became the set's flagship chase card, featuring a sleek, dark aesthetic. Other hits included the "Shiny Gardevoir ex" and the adorable "Shiny Mew ex." While it didn't shake up the competitive meta like Paradox Rift, Paldean Fates was a celebration of the collecting hobby, giving players a chance to bling out their decks with their favorite shiny variants.
