Unleash the Power of Fighting in XY—Furious Fists
The gloves came off on August 13, 2014, with the release of XY—Furious Fists. As the name suggests, this expansion heavily favored Fighting-type Pokémon, introducing a suite of support cards that made them terrifyingly efficient. XY—Furious Fists introduced "Mega Lucario-EX" and "Mega Heracross-EX," giving Fighting and Grass types major power boosts. The set was designed to break the dominance of Darkness and Colorless decks from the previous era, literally punching a hole in the established meta.
Korrina and Strong Energy Define the Game
Competitive play in the XY—Furious Fists era was defined by two cards: "Korrina" and "Strong Energy." Korrina allowed players to search for a Fighting Pokémon and an Item card, creating incredible consistency. Meanwhile, Strong Energy added 20 damage to any Fighting Pokémon it was attached to, turning moderate attacks into one-hit KOs. Complemented by the "Fighting Stadium," which boosted damage against Pokémon-EX, this set ensured that Fighting-type decks like Lucario/Landorus would dominate tournaments for the foreseeable future.
