Platinum—Arceus
Status: Released (November 2009)
The Alpha Pokémon Arrives in Platinum—Arceus
The creator of the Pokémon world took center stage in Platinum—Arceus , released on November 4, 2009. This expansion is unique for encouraging players to collect multiple versions of the Alpha Pokémon, Arceus, each representing a different energy type. With special "AR" numbered cards, Platinum—Arceus allowed trainers to construct decks entirely around Arceus, utilizing the "Beginning Door" stadium to search for them. This set broke the mold by focusing heavily on a single Pokémon's versatility, offering a fresh deck-building challenge that stood apart from the SP-dominated meta.
Unlocking the Secrets of Arceus
Beyond the titular deity, Platinum—Arceus introduced powerful cards that have become collector favorites. The set features three different Arceus LV.X cards, each with unique abilities like "Psychic Bolt" and "Meteor Blast" that could be used by any Arceus in play. Collectors also hunt for the Shiny Ponyta, Shinx, and Bagon hidden within the set. With the return of Fossil Pokémon mechanics and the inclusion of a powerful Salamence LV.X that could take extra prize cards, Platinum—Arceus provided a mythical conclusion to the Platinum series.
