Sword & Shield—Fusion Strike
Status: Released (November 2021)
Mew VMAX Dominates in Fusion Strike
The largest set in Pokémon TCG history (at the time) dropped on November 12, 2021, with Sword & Shield—Fusion Strike . This massive expansion introduced the "Fusion Strike Style," a third battle style that focused on synergy and speed. "Mew VMAX" immediately took the throne as the best deck in the format. With its ability to copy any attack from your benched Fusion Strike Pokémon for just two colorless energy, it combined speed, power, and versatility into one pink, unbeatable package.
Gengar VMAX and Espeon VMAX
While Mew stole the show, the set also featured other heavy hitters like "Gengar VMAX," whose "Fear & Panic" attack punished opponents for playing Pokémon V and GX. The alternate art version of "Espeon VMAX," sleeping on a rooftop, became another high-dollar chase card for collectors, continuing the trend of beautiful Eeveelution arts from Evolving Skies. Sword & Shield—Fusion Strike was a set of extremes: extremely large, extremely powerful, and extremely influential on the competitive meta.
